Datta Phuge, nicknamed ‘the Gold man’ is the proud owner of the most
expensive shirt in the world.
Made with over 3kg gold and priced at a staggering fee of $250,000, the shirt is at number one on the list of the most expensive Men’s shirt.


Being a lover of gold, Datta Phuge is known to keep his wrists, neck and knuckles borne down with heavy bracelets, signet rings and Medallions.
It became no surprise that he would stretch his addiction to wearing a shirt fully made of gold and decided to get his tailor to put their machines to work in order to achieve his dream.
Phuge wears the shirt on special occasions like important functions and parties and as expected the shirt elicits mixed reactions. While some are impressed with his style, class and creativity as he makes a bold fashion statement, others frown upon the brazen display of wealth.
Phuge’s gold shirt was made by 16 tailors and their challenge was to make the shirt as comfortable as wearing a normal one. So, they came up with a gold cloth sewn in Italian weave and had to use a a special machine for the sewing.
The tailors picked their inspiration from the ancient Indian kings who wore suits of armour. A velvet lining was put inside to prevent scratching. It took 15 days to make.
The completed shirt is quite heavy and it clinks as Phuge walks in it; and of course he has to hire an armed guard to ensure the shirt stays on his back wherever he goes.
Additional care must be taken to manage the shirt as it cannot be washed, it must be protected against sweat and dirt. According to Phuge, wearing the shirt gives him a feel-good factor, as it is the ultimate hallmark of success, giving him the status he has always craved for since childhood.
